Emojis for Equality

🤔

Why it was needed

Of the 3,353 emojis existing on our phones, a total of 0 truly represent the diversity of African women’s hair.

👏

On Women’s Day, how could Darling, the largest hair extensions company in Kenya, whose brand is around making the woman feel beautiful and confident, change this?

🤗 What we did

We Co-created emojis with our customers that was the mirror image of their favorite/signature/current hairstyle. First, we asked our followers to submit photos of themselves and then created custom emojis for them that they could use in any conversation and post on social media. We then compiled all the emojis we received and submitted them to the UNICODE consortium, asking them to create more Afro-mojis. We await their response.
